Product Designer job description
A modern product designer job description template covering responsibilities, craft expectations, and the partnership model with engineering and product.
About the role
We're hiring a Product Designer to shape the end-to-end experience of our product. You'll lead design for a core area — from research and concept through high-fidelity craft and engineering hand-off — and help raise the bar for what 'great' looks like across the team.
What you'll do
- Own design for a major product area end-to-end: discovery, IA, interaction, and visual craft
- Run lightweight research and synthesize findings into clear product direction
- Prototype quickly to validate ideas before committing engineering effort
- Partner with PMs and engineers daily; participate in scoping and tradeoff conversations
- Contribute to and extend our design system
- Share work in critique and raise the team's craft bar through feedback
What we're looking for
- 4+ years designing shipped digital products end-to-end
- A portfolio showing strong interaction design and visual craft
- Fluency in Figma and modern prototyping tools
- Comfort working closely with engineering through implementation
- Excellent written communication for async-first teams
Nice to have
- Experience designing for B2B SaaS or developer tools
- Front-end coding skills (HTML/CSS, basic React)
- Background contributing to a public design system
Compensation
$130,000 – $180,000 base + equity (US, remote)
